Every answer is one of these.

Three of them are refusals. That is deliberate — a refusal you can act on beats a number you cannot trust.

Corroborated

Two or more independent UN agencies agree within tolerance.

Single source

Only one agency publishes it. Usable, but nothing corroborates it.

Contested

Agencies disagree beyond tolerance. The engine shows every figure and refuses to pick one. It never averages.

Incomparable

The figures measure different things — a count against a proportion, or two different age bands. The comparison is refused and the reason named.

No evidence

The indicator exists but this place or year isn't covered. The gap is reported, never filled.

How a claim is checked

Five steps, no model in any of them.

  1. Resolve resolve_indicator finds every agency publishing the concept — grouped by publisher, not ranked, so no single agency's figure reads as the figure.
  2. Ground ground_claim fetches each agency's metadata and observation concurrently, pinning every value to its exact source facet.
  3. Gate Unit, scale, denominator, age band, observation period and reference year are compared before any arithmetic. A mismatch stops the comparison.
  4. Judge Relative spread is measured against a tolerance set per indicator family in a versioned, hash-pinned ruleset.
  5. Seal finalize_passport returns an Evidence Passport: the verdict, every source, a SHA-256 chain, and the exact upstream calls to replay.

Why you don't have to trust us

Every passport carries a replay manifest.

The exact ordered UN queries that produced its numbers. Re-run them and compare. The hash chain proves the record wasn't altered; only the replay proves the figures are right. Authenticity here rests on reproducibility, not secrecy.

Questions people ask

Is this an AI agent?
No. It contains no language model and generates no prose. It resolves identifiers, fetches figures, applies fixed rules and returns a verdict. The connecting agent does the explaining; the engine supplies the evidence and the refusals.
Why won't it just tell me which number is right?
Because when two UN agencies publish different figures, neither is wrong — they are different series built on different denominators and methods. Averaging them produces a number nobody publishes and nobody can cite. Showing both, and saying so, is the honest answer.
What data does it use?
The UN System Data Commons, covering UNSD, UNICEF, WHO, UNDP HDRO, FAO, UNIDO and others. A secondary public source can be configured; anything from it is stamped EXTERNAL and can corroborate a UN figure but never replace one.
Does it store my questions?
Only sealed passports, and only when an agent explicitly calls finalize_passport — that's the point of a citable record. Nothing else is retained, and there are no accounts, no credentials and no tracking on this site.
